About Engelien Scheperkamp

Engelien Scheperkamp is a Dutch Designer and artist who lives part of the year with her husband and their dog Yentl in a small wooden house in Loosdrecht. Surrounded by nature, whistling birds and water, she enjoys a quiet, somewhat slowed-down life.

Both children are grown up, having lives of their own, and left the warm nest a few years ago. But still they frequently come home to enjoy the cosiness for a cup of hot tea that is always waiting for them.

Celebrating a grateful life is her biggest inspiration. The love for handmade things, like handcrafted pottery, a drawing on a piece of paper, the re-use of old materials and collaborating with social workplaces are amongst her greatest joy.

A balanced quiet life with lots of creativity and being surrounded by family and friends make her a very happy person.

As co-founder of her own little label Hills of Hems her handwriting is stylish and recognisable through its calm colour palette. The joy and happiness can be seen in everything she designs for the growing  label.

That calm feeling clearly stands out from Laura Ashley's rich use of colour. With great passion and enthusiasm, she has been developing beautiful ranges of Collectables for this iconic brand for many years. Around the world, the floral tableware by her hand

is commissioned by Laura Ashley.

Besides her daily work, she enjoys making all kinds of things in and around the house, working in the vegetable garden and painting whatever she likes. Next to all these activities, she makes ceramics for her own use and regularly runs across the heath with her dog Yentl!

Nature is her greatest inspiration, the colours, the shapes and the beautiful seasonal changeovers feed her creativity every day. The few years she lived in Switzerland certainly contributed to this, the views from her little village of the mountains, forests and meadows were never the same, but more like a constantly changing painting.

Engelien's slow down life in Loosdrecht, by the water and away from the hustle and bustle is the balance she needs. It was her secret getaway from her busy life a few years ago, but is now more and more becoming the place where she can be found frequently. The feeling of living a simpler life with her husband makes her very happy.

With most of her family nearby and friends everywhere, she feels like a very privileged person. And her creativity is like a shadow, it is always there, wherever she goes.

"slow down, celebrate live and enjoy all of it"
